Custom Glazing

THE EXAMPLES here show how very large panes can work, aesthetically and practically. Less obvious is the hidden engineering behind each of these projects. Take for example the main picture, below middle. This shows three massive, adjacent panes, each of them 3 metres by 3.2 metres. Note the unusually slim profile of the intervening sashes, in this case no more than 15mm.

Well hidden are features like the “honeycomb profile”: little pockets of air contained within frames of steel or aluminium. These act as a thermal break, adding to the protection offered by double- and triple-glazing. (We offer both options.) KKS offers argon sealing: we interpose the gas between multiple panes. Argon is one of the “noble gases”: even slower than air to conduct heat. Accordingly — and possibly to your surprise — you will find that even dramatically wide windows, properly fitted, can actually improve U values throughout your home.
